PRECISION BAT KNOCKING & OILING WORKSHOP

Raw willow is soft, fibrous, and vulnerable. Hitting a 156g hard leather ball with an un-knocked bat cracks edges, snaps toes, and deadens ping. Our in-house computerized knocking machine and master bone-pressing process hardens the wood fibers and expands the sweet spot for explosive performance.

Why Never Play Without Knocking?
  • Splintered Edges: Edge impacts from 120km/h+ balls cause irreparable seam cracks on raw willow blades.
  • Toe Breakage: Yorkshire and Kashmir willow toes splinter on yorkers unless compressed with bone mallets.
  • Our Solution: We compress the cellulose fibers layer-by-layer without crushing the wood structure.

The Scientific Method

OUR 5-STAGE KNOCKING BLUEPRINT

We never rush bat preparation. Every stage is timed to allow the willow cells to absorb shock and settle.

0115 Mins

Moisture Audit & Willow Inspection

Every bat is inspected for grain alignment, natural moisture levels, and fragile dry spots before any hammer touches the blade.

Prevents wood fracture
0224h Curing

Raw Linseed Oil Saturation

We use 100% pure cold-pressed raw linseed oil (never boiled). Gently massaged into blade face and edges to retain elasticity.

Fibers absorb flexibility

10,000+ Calibrated Machine Strikes

Our specialized digital knocking machine simulates over 10,000 leather ball impacts at varying pressure angles across the whole blade.

Hand Bone-Mallet Edge Rolling

Machines cannot compress delicate round edges safely. Our craftsman uses an authentic hardwood bone mallet to roll and harden edges by hand.

FREQUENTLY ASKED BAT CARE QUESTIONS

Can I play in match nets immediately after machine knocking?

We recommend having at least 15-20 minutes of light throwdowns with an old, soft leather ball before taking the bat against a 130km/h fast bowler. This allows you to feel the center rebound and ensures the fiber compression has set properly.

Why do you use cold-pressed raw linseed oil instead of boiled oil?

Boiled linseed oil contains chemical drying solvents that harden on the surface without penetrating deeply, causing the wood to become brittle. Pure cold-pressed raw linseed oil enters the natural grain capillaries, keeping the willow supple under high velocity leather impacts.

What is the turnaround time for drop-off at your Thergaon shop?

Standard Silver machine knocking can be completed within 24 hours. Gold Match-Ready requires 48 hours to allow the raw linseed oil to cure for 24 hours prior to machine and bone-mallet compaction.
